Meet The Team – IWD Edition
We had the pleasure of sitting down with Group Operations Director for Hydro-X, Rachel Lee to gain some insight into her role as part of our International Women’s Day celebration.
HX News: Thank you very much for taking the time to speak to us. Can you start by telling us your name and your role?
Rachel Lee: Thanks for having me. I am Rachel Lee. I am Group Operations Director for Hydro-X Group.
HX News: Group Operations Director, what does that involve?
Rachel Lee: My role is to oversee various elements of the business from Operations, HR, Fleet through to Business Systems.
HX News: That sounds like a lot of responsibilities. How do you keep on top of it all?
Rachel Lee: It is a bit of a balancing act and communications play a major role in it. I have to ensure that we are communicating well between the various departments. I have a strong team and we work together and strive to make continual improvements.
HX News: What do you enjoy the most about your role?
Rachel Lee: I love the fact that no day is the same, and I also get to work with a great team.
HX News: You work in a male dominated industry; how important is it to encourage more women into these fields?
Rachel Lee: I think it is important to have the diversity and different perspectives that women can bring to the table. I believe that both men and women work with the same goals, and for our organisation, having both men and women in Management and at Board level gives us a great balance.
HX News: What is your advice for other women aspiring to be Operations Directors?
Rachel Lee: Set your goals, put your mind to it and work hard for it.
HX News: The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is ‘choose to challenge’. Why do you choose to challenge?
Rachel Lee: I have a network of amazing and strong women within my family and at work. And I choose to challenge because I believe in encouraging other women to follow their vision and dreams and turn them into reality!
HX News: Finally, what do you do to relax?
Rachel Lee: I love spending time with my family and friends, going for walk and bike rides.
