This commercial-grade product is used to descale, disinfect, and clean shower heads that cannot be dismantled. It can also be used on other vertical surfaces, plumbing fixtures and fixed sanitary ware.

Showers have been the source of many outbreaks of Legionnaires’ disease.

Showerhead Plus has proven effectiveness in Legionella bacteria control†, and should be used to clean shower heads every 3 months, or more frequently if your Legionella Risk Assessment advises so.

† The European Legionella Disinfection Test Standard (1995) for Legionella Pneumophila Serogroup 1 (NTCC 11192) gave control at 30 second contact time for 1:3 dilution.

Showerhead Plus Gel is a ready-to-use acid-based descaling and disinfecting solution that has proven effectiveness in Legionella control.

How To Use Showerhead Plus Gel

Showerhead Plus Gel will descale and sanitize shower heads, plumbing, fittings and sanitary ware in one operation.

This product has been developed for use on vertical surfaces and fixed fittings that cannot be dismantled and immersed for treatment.

The product can be applied by using a spray bottle or other suitable applicator:

  1.  Physically clean the head with a soft brush to remove loose deposit or soap scum
  2. Apply gel over the surface to be descaled/cleaned and allow to soak for five minutes
  3. Rinse thoroughly with clean water
  4. Inspect surface of shower head or fitting and if any scale is present then repeat step 2
  5. When the shower head or fitting is clean and scale free, apply a further coating of Showerhead Plus Gel over the surface of the shower head or fitting
  6. Allow a minimum of one minute contact time for the disinfection process
  7. Rinse with copious amounts of clean water
  8. Examine fittings to confirm cleanliness
  9. Return to service

Please Note: Showerhead Plus Gel should not be mixed with other products such as hypochlorite based solutions.

  • In case of contact, immediately remove contaminated clothing and wash skin with soap and water
  • For eyes, flush plenty of eater and seek medical attention.

To remove heavy deposits: Use Showerhead Plus liquid neat – caution should be used when using neat on chrome fittings. Please test in a small area first. For routine and regular cleaning: Immerse in a solution of 1-part Showerhead Plus liquid to 3 parts water. For routine and regular cleaning of your shower head and hose:
  1. Physically clean the head with a soft brush to remove loose deposits or soap scum
  2. Use a sturdy plastic bucket. Immerse the shower heads and hoses in a solution of 1-part Showerhead Plus liquid to 3 parts water – enough to cover the shower heads and hoses.
  3. Leave to soak for 2-15 minutes.
  4. Any remaining loose scale can be removed by gentle rubbing.
  5. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  6. Examine fittings to confirm cleanliness
Frequency for prevention of Legionella bacteria: It is recommended by the HSE to descale and disinfect shower heads quarterly.
